    The Birkin

The Hermes Birkin bag is the most iconic handbag in the world and was created in 1984 by Jean Louis Dumas. He tweaked the original Haut à Courroies bag which was used to carry equestrian gear so it was more versatile, easier to carry and modern. Jane Birkin was the inspiration for this, hence the name.

Waiting lists can be up to 2 years and even 4 for exotic skins. Clients are required to pre-order bags as they are not readily available in the stores. Being on the waiting list, however, doesn't necessarily guarantee you'll receive the bag you desire.  Maia specialises in sourcing rare vintage Hermes bags in discontinued colours, sizes, leathers or limited editions styles so you wouldn't be able to even order them from the store anyway.

The Birkin comes in 4 sizes: 25cm, 30cm, 35cm and the 40cm travel Birkin. New colours are introduced each season along with limited edition pieces. We have a constant supply of Birkin bags and we take any special requests as well. We will endeavour to source your perfect Birkin as quickly as we possibly can.

    The KELLY

The Kelly bag was designed by Robert Dumas in the 1930s and was originally called ‘sac a courroie pour dames’ meaning ‘bags with straps for ladies’. The bag was made infamous by the actress Grace Kelly when in 1956 she used the bag to hide her pregnancy from the paparazzi. Photographs of this beautiful bag were on covers of magazines around the world making it an overnight sensation. Hence it was renamed the "Kelly" bag.

There are two types of Kelly bag – Kelly Sellier and Kelly Retourne. The Retourne has a softer look and feel as the bag has been turned inside out. The Sellier is more rigid with the stitching on the outside. The Sellier tends to be made from the harder leathers such as Epsom, vache trekking and box. Hermes have noticed a considerable increase in demand for the Kelly bag, so waiting lists are long. At Maia we can quickly source you an excellent conditioned rare vintage Kelly which you will not see anyone else carrying.

The Constance bag dates back to 1959 and was the bag preferred by Jaqueline Onassis. It is said to be named after the initial designer’s fifth child.

The bag has a strap which can be fully extended to wear long on the shoulder or shortened as desired. It is a timeless easy wearing bag.

There are five sizes of Constance. The micro, mini, 23cm, 24cm and the wider shape called the elan.

The rumour is that the Constance bag is soon to be discontinued so this has proved to be an even more popular bag of late.
